Today I wanted to share with you one of my favorite passages of Scripture. I read it again today and it spoke to my heart. I hope it gives grace to you today.
You care for people and animals alike, O Lord. How precious is your unfailing love, O God! All humanity finds shelter in the shadow of your wings. You feed them from the abundance of your own house, letting them drink from your river of delights. For you are the fountain of life, the light by which we see.
Psalm 36:6-9
I heard an interesting comment on the radio today. I haven’t been able to verify it of yet, but a Bible scholar was interviewed and mentioned that one of the meanings for the Hebrew word “life” is “to step towards”. I thought that this was quite an astute observation and a thoughtful way to look at the word. It really is true – to choose life, one must make steps towards and come close to God, and also other people. By choosing to conform to God’s desires for us, we draw near to Him in communion and develop meaningful community with others. When God interacts with people, He invites them to come near Him. In fact, all of Christ’s earthly ministry was about drawing people close – “come and follow me”. I love, and am so thankful for a God who not only invites us to come close and receive life, but also pursues us and initiates relationship with Him.
Blessings to you,
Sarah
