Gift #389: Hendricks County Fair

Today was spent on the fairgrounds as this was the first day of our county fair.  There was lots of activity organizing and displaying all the entries and several categories were already being judged.  Animals were arriving into pens freshly stocked with mulch and hay.  And the food vendors were busy setting up and making all the delicacies usually associated with fairs.  I spent most of the day with my mom and neighbors watching the 4H dog competitions.  My neighbor’s daughter was showing her dog for the first time in two different competitions – obedience and showmanship.  It was fun to watch all the dogs and their owners parading around.  In the basic obedience category alone there were nearly 30 dogs; and all that took lots of time to judge.  Our neighbor’s dog did very well.  He was remarkably patient with all the going on and with the aggressive, ill-tempered chihuahua, whose mission was to bite every unsuspecting dog…and also with the dog that advanced an aerial assault by jumping on his back right before his turn.  I didn’t get pictures of the dogs because the arena was very dark.  But here are some pics of the set up for the rest of the fair.  I’ll be back later in the week to share about the exhibits.
