Gift #493: Autumn tree shawl

As I’ve been looking through my pictures of our fall, they are a blur of yellow…. yellow punctuated with tree trunks and forest floor of grey brown.

Before the autumn colors even began turning I had been working on a shawl that I had bought yarn for a great many months ago.  I worked on it off an on through October and finished it a couple of weeks ago.  I loved the finished result and as I was wearing it today I realized that it looked remarkably like the forests right now.  Many of the leaves are gone and the tall, vertical tree trunks stand out starkly against the remaining golden foliage.  The lacy yellow edging even looks like the sun streaming through the trees on a golden afternoon.  I had unwittingly knit autumn into my shawl and what a special surprise that turned out to be! Now whenever I wear it, I’ll think of our beautiful autumn and the gold mist clinging to the trees in November.
