Yesterday I stopped by the store after work to get some items for supper. I was driving up a row and noted (with some joy) that there appeared to be flowers out front. Then.. holy perennials, Batman… were those hellebores?! The car was immediately parked and I ran out to see them. Yep.. they were. And so they came home – it’s as simple as that.
Hellebores, or lenten roses, are my favorite flower. I love everything about them. I dream of a backyard filled with trees and hellebore. I especially love the soft, muted tones of the blooms. They are so unassuming and blend in perfectly with a woodland landscape.
This particular variety is called “Pink Frost.” The official description says “Burgundy and white buds open to soft pink shades maturing to deep burgundy. Silver green leaves.” Now if that doesn’t make your heart skip a beat I don’t know what will.
I carried her around through the store, put her safely in the car, and promptly put her up on the kitchen counter, and stared at her for most of the evening. Unfortunately I couldn’t take her to work this morning, but don’t think for a second that I didn’t consider it. I’m in love.
Blessings to you,
Sarah
What an absolutely lovely little hellebore you found, Sarah! You should see my good friend’s yard, which is full of trees and hellebores. Hold fast to your dream 😉 They produce lots of seedlings. Best wishes, WG
