Today I leave my beloved Denver and wing my way back east. As is custom now, on my last day I like to share a song that is particularly meaningful to me about Denver. On this trip, we were fortunate to see Lionel Richie in concert at Red Rocks. It was a wonderful experience, and I’ll blog about it once the photos are organized. My favorite song of his is called “Stuck on You”. The song reminds me of the bittersweet feeling of traveling – the excitement of seeing something new or returning to something you love is tempered with the sorrow of goodbyes. Denver has been the great defining love of my life, so it is not surprising that I tend to interpret love songs in the context of my romance with my city. Hearing Lionel Richie sing this song at Red Rocks made it even more special and it seemed an eloquent way to capture what I’m feeling for my home (with a few minor edits).
Stuck on you
I’ve got this feeling down
Deep in my soul
That I just can’t lose
Guess, I’m on my way
Needed a friend
And the way I feel now I guess
I’ll be with you till the end
Guess I’m on my way
Mighty glad you stayedI’m stuck on you
Been a fool too long I guess
It’s time for me to come on home
Guess I’m on my way
So hard to see
*That a city like you could find
a place for a girl like me*
Guess I’m on my way
Mighty glad you stayed
Oh, I’m leaving on that midnight train
And I know just where I’m going
I’ve packed up my troubles
And I’ve thrown them all away
Because this time little darlin’
I’m coming home to stayI’m stuck on you
I’ve got this feeling down
Deep in my soul
That I just can’t lose
Guess, I’m on my way
Needed a friend
And the way I feel now I guess
I’ll be with you till the end
Guess I’m on my way
I’m mighty glad you stayed
Lionel Richie

Yes my Denver, I’m truly “stuck on you” and I look forward to the time when I can come home to stay. I love you.
Blessings to you,
