Gift #871: August

Can anyone tell me where July went?  I’m a little confused as to why my calendar says August.  Last time I checked, it was early July.. and I’m pretty sure that was just a week or so ago.  What happens to time?!  Isn’t it funny how our perception of time varies so much with our mood or how we’re spending time?  Anyway, it’s a bit clear that July came and went and there was no post on our July artist feature.  Come to think of it, there was no post in June either…  So we’re having our August post early in the month before it becomes September next week.  These watercolors from Marjolein Bastin reflect the color-saturated state of high summer, when the flowers are at peak and the birds and butterflies at their busiest.

The world is full of life and vibrant color this time of year – and that’s something to celebrate.

People are at their busiest too.  Vacations, travel plans, long weekends spent on exciting adventures…  people flit to and fro across the globe like migrating birds.  We seek to explore, find new things, trek that new road, and view an exotic horizon.  This assemblage looks like the travel journal and souvenirs of a nature-loving soul.

Upon returning home, the voyager pens her last observations in her journal, glues down the dried petals and leaves she collected, and admires the last fading beauty of cut flowers.  These will be pressed in the pages of her journal as a reminder of Emerson’s wise words “Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful, we must carry it with us or we find it not”

Blessings to you,
