Gift# 902: Finding Wonder among the Leaves

“Never say there is nothing beautiful in the world anymore.  There is always something to make you wonder in the shape of a tree, the trembling of a leaf. ”  – Albert Schweitzer

Autumn provides an abundance of delights to make you wonder at the world and give thanks for its beauty and the beauty of its Creator.  When I get discouraged I spend time with trees and plants.  It helps my heart recite truth that it forgets all too often.  We could live in a dull, colorless, utilitarian world where everything is gray and where food is a tasteless pill and we exist without joy.  But we don’t.  We live in a world brimming with extravagance and overflowing with good things.  Our senses are engaged and thrilled every moment of the day by beauty all around us.  We can see inspiring vistas and tall trees and colorful leaves.  We can hear soaring music and the voices of those we love.  We can taste our favorite foods – and every food tastes different.  We can smell fresh air and flowers, decaying leaves – rich and scented memories.  We can feel the world around us.  All this is a gift – a reflection of the character of God.  He cares enough to fill our world with beauty and allow us to experience and enjoy it.   I hope that you will find many opportunities to delight in the season and may every ordinary miracle that you find be a reminder that you are loved.

Blessings to you,
